Issue On December 31, 2016, a leap second event will occur where a second is added to keep clocks in sync with the movement of the Earth. There are known issues with the older versions of the SuSe Linux operating system that runs on Avamar Servers that can cause a production impact by the leap second event. This knowledgebase article provides instructions to check the operating system kernel version to determine if the system is impacted.
Cause Avamar Servers running SLES 11 SP1 with kernel version of 2.6.32.12-0.7.1.3786.0.PTF-default or earlier and with NTP configured are at risk of production impact due to the leap second event on December 31, 2016. This is due to kernel level bugs in the operating system. Newer versions of the SLES 11 SP1 kernel are not impacted.
